When the Mornings program revealed Coca Cola had been taking free water from an unlicensed bore in Karragullen, bottling and selling it, the reaction was one of disbelief and anger.

Coca Cola was acting legally and received permission to take that water 30 years ago.

But there was no oversight in place to ensure the company was following the rules there was no impact on the water table.

Coca Cola has, for now, stopped taking water from that bore after the public outrage and a meeting with the Water Minister.

This revelation has put a new spotlight on our groundwater resources.

Do more users need to be licensed?

Do we need to scale back how much water groundwater is taken?

Join the discussion at the next Mornings Spotlight Forum on Wednesday July 17 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the ABC studios in East Perth. Doors open at approximately 9.15am.

You will hear from our expert panel which includes

    • Hon Simone McGurk MLA , Minister for Water
    • Professor Alex Gardner, Expert in Water Resources Law
