Creative photographer Jane Marr aka Mama Jane will take you on a walk of discovery and wellbeing around the Tea Tree Gully heritage precinct and Anstey Hill Recreation Park.

Photowalking is a practice in creativity, mindfulness and gratitude - looking at local places and faces through fresh eyes - discovering the extraordinary in the ordinary.

The session will introduce some simple photographic principles and the benefits of walking for emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. Participants will finish the walk with a collection of photographs, which could be printed and framed, made into photo-cards and/or you may want create an artwork for next year’s Stitch & Yarn Community Exhibition.

About the artist - facilitator

Jane Marr aka Mama Jane has been an amateur creative photographer for over 40 years. She has participated in numerous exhibitions including Port Adelaide Artists Forum, SouthWest Contemporary, Port Festival and SALA, as well as commissions and publications. She has worked for over 30 years working in community, including 9 years as Arts & Cultural Development Officer for Port Adelaide Enfield Council. She is now dedicating more time to her passions of photography, walking and landcare.

What you need to know

  • You are not obliged to exhibit in the Stitch & Yarn Community Exhibition to come along to Spring Wellbeing Photowalk. All welcome.
  • Bring along your own camera or mobile device to capture what you see. Jane will also share ideas on how you can further develop and show your photowalk images.
  • Suitable for most skill levels, 16 years and older. However, please be aware we will be walking on varying and at times uneven terrain.
  • Cancellations after 9am Monday 23 September will not be refunded.
  • Meet at Gallery 1855.
