Queer Film Festival with The Story Mill

About This Event:

During Pride Month, meet with Story Mill and other queer filmmakers while they show their short films and share stories of their creative processes and careers in filmmaking.

Queer Bites, showcases award-winning short films of queer stories to the screen, exploring themes of disability, race, trans, gay, lesbian, and non-binary experiences. Come join us for a night of celebration and conversation with some of Sydney best Queer filmmakers

The Story Mill is a boutique production company founded in 2019 by the dynamic and quirky duo Sophie Saville and Rowan Devereux. They've been making waves with their award-winning films, including shorts Peach and Pineapple, documentaries Inspire Me! and Making It, and their feature film Evicted! A Modern Romance, which nabbed the Audience Choice Award at the Sydney Film Festival in 2022. They are currently in development for on their next project, Murder on the Dancefloor, coming soon.

Peach | The Story Mill
A socially anxious young woman manages to land herself what she thinks is a hot date, but the only problem is: she's not sure if it's actually a date.

Pineapple | The Story Mill
After discovering her new next-door neighbour is an old flame; an older, more confident Sarah decides to pursue her again, but is the one who got away worth the wait?

Happy New Year, Ms. Luna | Writer, Director & Actor - Andy Deip

Luna, a young transfeminine woman, attends her family’s annual Chinese New Year gathering for the first time since her transition. Already prepared to be compared to her other cousins for her career choices and lack of motivation, she must also explain to her conservative family her decision to transition into being a woman at the request of her mother.

Rehabilitating | Writer & Director - Inez Playford

Ash, a woman with chronic pain, is stuck in a rehab hospital. She won’t participate in physio, fearing the pain, and is too ashamed to ask for help. Nearby, Georgia, another young patient, participates with ease. She is Ash’s complete opposite. Georgia can see how desperate Ash is to get out of the hospital – so she proposes they sneak out to a bar for the night.

Bikes | Writer & Director - Mohammad Awad

Bikes is an intimate exploration of queer love in Western Sydney in two parts, immersing the viewer in the lives of queer people either in love or looking for love, while retelling a story of queer romance and heartbreak.
