About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

Join us for a unique recreation of the 1912 ferry Kanangra's routes to Mosman and Taronga Park Zoo aboard MV Bundeena on 17 October 2024.

As a special extra, we will sail past Kanangra herself, which is being restored at the Sea Heritage Dock at the Sydney Heritage Fleet's shipyard on Rozelle Bay.

Lasting 4 hours, the tour will begin from Pirrama Park, Pyrmont at 11 am and will return you there at 3 pm. Bring your own lunch and buy refreshments on board.

Expert commentary will tell how Kanangra began life as a steam ferry in 1912 and converted to diesel in 1959. For 70 years, she transported over 40 million passengers across inner Sydney Harbour through two world wars, the Great Depression, and the opening of both the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House before being retired in 1985 and preserved by the Sydney Heritage Fleet.

Highlights:

* View Kanangra, the last of Sydney's double-ended K Class ferries, under restoration at the Sydney Heritage Fleet's shipyard on Rozelle Bay.

* Hear Kanangra's wonderful 110+ year history and how she is being restored to grace Sydney Harbour again.

* Cruise the inner harbour routes that Kanangra served for 20 years before the Harbour Bridge and another 50 after the Bridge's opening.

* See how you can be part of the restoration of this iconic ferry.

* All ticket sales proceeds will go directly towards funding the restoration of the Kanangra. By purchasing a ticket for the cruise, you will be making a very meaningful contribution to our restoration efforts.
