6th May 2025 - 11.30 to 2.30 - Workshop 1: Its Time for a Pickle Party!

Discover the ancient art of pickling and fermenting to preserve nature in a jar! Learn how to turn fresh produce into tasty pickles and sauerkraut while connecting with fellow foodies. You'll take home your own jar of each and leave with the skills to reduce food waste and eat more sustainably.

14th May 2025 - 9.30 to 12noon - Workshop 2: Grow Your Own Food Flavouring.

Savour your favourite flavours! Learn how to grow your own herbs and spices that can then be used in your amazing dinner creations. You will learn about how to keep them healthy using the plant, pick, regrow methods of growing herbs. All participants will go home with their own potted flavour.

3rd June 2025 - 11.30 to 2.30pm - Workshop 3: Creative Kitchen Waste Hacks

Don’t toss those scraps—transform them! Learn clever ways to reduce waste in the kitchen by turning everyday scraps into useful household items. You’ll make and take home a jar of veggie stock, citrus cleaning spray, and a coffee ground body scrub. Simple, sustainable, and fun!

18th June 2025 - 9.30am to 1.30pm - Workshop 4: Souper Savers and Small Space Gardening

A combined workshop looking at gardening in pots, then using up that produce in creative meals. This session will see participants learn more tips on container gardening, then Volunteer Chefs will demonstrate how to make a lovely Russian Velvet Borscht, a Fluffy Foccacia and also a Perfect Pesto.

Each participant will see how easy it is to create a full cheap meal made from garden grown ingredients, and will take home their own foccacia ready to cook fresh at home along with a sample of the Perfect Pesto. Participants will also take home their own potted goodness to re-create your own pesto at home.

1st July 2025 - 9.30sm to 12noon - Workshop 5: Preserved Lemons & Moroccan Flavours

Master the art of preserving lemons and discover how to use them in your cooking. This hands-on workshop includes a preserved lemon-making session and a Moroccan tagine demo, giving you the skills and inspiration to bring zesty, zero-waste meals to your table.

16th July 2025 - 9.30am to 12noon - Workshop 6: Cheap Gardens in Small Spaces

Building on from previous workshops, but still open to the new beginner, this session will show how easy it is to garden when you have no garden! Utilising creative ideas of planting edible plants, flavour creators, vegetables and all things that like living together, you will learn just how easy it is to save money by growing your favourite things to eat. Nothing beats picking fresh, eating clean, and simply saving a dollar!

30th July - 9.30am to 12noon - 5 Ingredients, 5 Cultures, Making your Food Go Further

Using just 5 basic staple ingredients you will eat your way around the world! In this session you will learn ways that the same 5 cheap and simplest ingredients can make many meals, snacks, desserts and more. Basic doesnt mean boring. Our Volunteer Chefs will show you how you can make your food go further by using these 5 simple ingredients to cover every meal of the day, but also see how these same ingredients are used in many different cultures to create fun, healthy and cheap things to eat. Participants will taste and sample all the creations across the session, some may even go home with you.

13th August 2025 - 9.30am to 12noon - Workshop 7: All Things Worms & Worm Farming

Delivered by the Australian Worm Firm, this session will show you how to create a worm friendly garden, farm your own worms and then use their castings to benefit your plants and soils. Complete the cycle of gardening to plate and reducing your food waste.
