About this event

You are invited to a free community planting event to help plant grasses and wildflowers into the nature conservation reserve at Sustainable Park.

Bring your family along as there is a great playground there, and WildlifeXposure will have engaging shows of native wildlife. Are you brave enough to pet or hold a snake!

This planting will create more habitat for native bees and butterflies, and help restore this small patch of rare native grassland.


What's provided

  • Gloves.
  • Sunscreen.
  • All the planting tools and materials.
  • Drinking water.
  • Pizzas ordered for lunch and fruit snacks available.
  • Portable toilet on site (with 2 steps up into it).
  • Hard copies of the Birds of Hume and Fauna of Hume will be available at the event, or find digital versions at Discover Nature in Hume.


What to bring

  • Wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring a rain/wind-proof jacket.
  • Wear safe, fully-enclosed walking shoes.
  • Bring your own reusable drink bottle.

Come along to Hume City Council's community planting events with family and friends.

  • Help revegetate our shared open green spaces.
  • Create habitat for local wildlife - see Council's Gardens for Wildlife program to create wildlife friendly gardens at your home, school or business.
  • The events focus on local biodiversity issues.
  • There will be other fun stuff happening and food.
  • It's free and all materials/equipment are provided!

These events are family-friendly and child-safe, however children will need to be under the direct supervision of their parents or guardians.

Frequently asked questions

Where is car parking available?

Free car parking is available on the surrounding residential streets, including Sustainable Drive, Craigieburn. Please drive safely and be considerate of residents driveway access when parking.

Is there a toilet?

A portable toilet with 1-step up will be hired to be on site for the event.

What will be catered for lunch?

There will be fruit snacks available. People will be asked to register on their arrival and pick their favourite flavour of pizza, with vegetarian and gluten free options. Pizzas will be shared. If you have other dietary requirements please bring your own packed lunch.

Is the site accessible?

There are concrete and gravel pathways around Sustainable Park to access the playground. The planting area has long grass and rocks, and to protect the plants, will not be accessible for wheelchairs and prams. The wildlife display is on the lawn area. There is 2 steps up into the portable toilet.
