About this event

Step back in time to August 1776 and experience the excitement of the Battle of Brooklyn, the largest battle of the Revolutionary War and the first to take place after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Green-Wood invites families and kids to discover the diverse perspectives of this historic event, which unfolded right here on land that’s now part of our Cemetery. In partnership with institutions from across New York City (full list to be announced soon), we’re offering a fun-filled afternoon of activities that honor the bravery of those who fought in the battle and bring revolutionary New York to life. Join us for an unforgettable exploration of America’s past—perfect for all ages!

Free. Registration recommended. Suggested donation of $5 per person registered. Donations help support Green-Wood’s free and low-cost programs throughout the year.

Before Reserving Your Spot, Please Note:

  • Attendees must follow all instructions and guidance from Cemetery staff and volunteers.
  • Tickets: There are no paper or e-tickets, and registrants do not have to check in. Registration is helpful to give us an idea of participant numbers so that we may have enough materials on hand.
  • Where To Go: This program begins at the meadow near the Main Entrance at Fifth Avenue and 25th Street (500 25th Street).
  • Accessibility & Safety: This is an outdoor event that will take place in areas with little to no shade. The Modern Chapel will be used as a cooling station. The Modern Chapel is not fully ADA compliant but offers accommodations to meet many needs. Please contact us at (718) 210-3080, ext. 1, or email events@green-wood.com to discuss specific arrangements.
  • Inclement Weather Policy: We monitor weather conditions throughout the day for the best chance of proceeding with the tour, and will not make a final decision until 8am on the day of the event. Cancellations will be announced via Eventbrite email blasts, so check your email and spam folders.
