This hybrid workshop will engage Australian stakeholders in exploration of ethical challenges relating to research involving deceased donation and transplantation, in order to inform the work of the INTEGRITY project and to promote ethical research in this field within Australia.

INTEGRITY stands for INTernational Ethical Guidance for Research Involving deceased donation and Transplantation activitY.

The INTEGRITY Project, led by the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT) in partnership with the International Society for Organ Donation Professionals (ISODP) and the Transplantation Society (TTS), aims to develop an international framework to ethically guide the design, implementation, and evaluation of research involving deceased donation and transplantation activities.

Research involving deceased donation and transplant activities plays a vital role in expanding opportunities for life saving and life changing transplants, improving health outcomes for transplant recipients, deceased donors and their families. Such research may also present unique and complex ethical challenges which are poorly addressed by existing guidance. Uncertainty about management of ethical concerns may discourage, delay, or prevent the conduct of valuable research, or lead to practices that jeopardise the ethical standards of human research and of donation and transplantation care.

The workshop is sponsored by the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority.

The program will involve several brief presentations to provide context for interactive discussion of various topics in small groups as well as in plenary. A more detailed agenda will be available soon together with details of confirmed presenters, facilitators and panelists.
