Calling all songwriters! Step into The Listening Room, where stripped-back, original music takes centre stage in an intimate, attentive space.


This isn’t your typical open mic night—The Listening Room is designed for artists and audiences to connect over music in a setting free of chatter and distractions. For musicians, it’s a unique opportunity to test fresh tunes with a truly respectful crowd. For listeners, it’s a chance to experience original music up close and personal, often for the first time.

Frequently asked questions

Is the space wheelchair friendly?

Unfortunately not! The Listening Room takes place in the upstairs band room at Nighthawks in Collingwood.

How many people will perform?

As many as 12 artists will share 2 original songs, and occasionally there will be a special guest to close the night.

What do I need to bring?

Whatever you need to perform! We can host 2 people on stage at once, with 2 DI channels, 3 mics + stands, 1 guitar amp, 1 aux port and 1 lead available for your use. There is a keyboard stand (no keyboard) and usually someone is willing to lend a guitar.

Does my song need to be finished?

Not at all! We encourage our performers to get out of their comfort zone, and try something new - that is what this stage is for! Think of it as a space to test new creative material on a truly engaged audience. The only rule is IT MUST BE ORIGINAL!
