Hey there,
You are invited to The Melody Makers - Geelong's newest Singalong Choir that everyone can be apart of. No auditions. No judgement. No need for perfection. Just the joy of singing in harmony with a room full of beautiful humans.
Every week, we’ll learn a new song, celebrating some of the most iconic pop hits. It’s your chance to relive the magic of past and present decades, sing with a wonderful group of people, and pick up some cool harmonies in a relaxed and encouraging setting.
Event Details:
📍Join us at The Poa Banyul Community Hub in Mount Duneed
When: Every Monday night at 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM (ish)
Please make sure to arrive on time as doors will (lovingly) shut at 7.15pm to not disrupt the flow of things happening within the room.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Vocal Warm-Ups & Exercises: Get your voice ready and learn how to start blending harmoniously within the group.
- Discover, learn and sing one new song each week
- Hands-On Practice: Enjoy guided practice learning the parts with a focus on blending and harmonising as a group.
- Group Sing-Along: Dim the lights, relax and have some fun performing the song we’ve worked on together. Cue all those incredible goosebumps.
What to Bring:
- A water bottle to stay hydrated
- I will email out the sheet music and vocal parts to everyone who has registered to the event prior to gathering. Feel free to bring a printed copy with you, otherwise I'll have plenty of spares on the night.
The Melody Makers is run by Laura Rowan, Founder and Vocal Coach at The Singing Collective - known for helping vocalists find their unique sound. Laura is a local singing teacher with over 10 years of professional experience in Popular Music & Performance. She is so excited to create a strong community and bring out the best in people’s voices.
Learning the Music
Sheet music and vocal recordings of each part will be available as learning resources before the event, and our collective goal is to practice the parts ahead of time so that we might come into the gathering with it learned! This way we can spend our time together really diving into the richness of music-making, rather than trying to teach the parts one by one. We don't need to know our parts by heart by any means (and you defffinitely don’t have to memorise it), but the stronger we are in our parts coming in, the more we'll be able to really dig into the fun stuff!
Low Pressure Participation
The Melody Maker events are participatory, but low-pressure. You'll be invited to sing along and make music with us, but I encourage you to draw your own boundaries and engage at your own pace - I pride myself in creating a judgment-free community where you can express yourself however feels right!
Want to Book For Multiple Sessions?
Want to secure a ticket every Monday for the next month? Easy! All you need to do is purchase (ie 4) tickets to ONE of the nights you wish to attend. After the purchase has been complete, log back into eventbrite, select your "tickets", press "change ticket" then "change event". It will give you the option to select another night, so click another night then save and continue. You will only be able to change one ticket at a time, but this is a great work-around to save money on paying excessive eventbrite booking fees. Find eventbrite's FAQ details HERE.
If you cannot attend an event, you can also choose to transfer your ticket to another night. If you have any issues, feel free to reach out to me or eventbrite, as we can step you through this process.
I can't wait to meet you!
Kindest,
Vocal Coach
Laura Rowan

Yes, the building is wheelchair accessible with wide access points at the entrance to the building and into the choir rehearsal space. There is also plenty of disabled parking spots in the car park behind the building and accessible toilets. We will have chairs available for anyone needing them.
Absolutely not. We will be learning a new song every week so if you miss a week, you won't fall behind. New people will always be welcomed to drop in or join! So make this your own. I'd love this to be an incredibly safe and warm community where everyone is valued for what they bring to the group.
Absolutely! The Melody Makers is a choir for everyone. We welcome people of all experiences (including complete beginners) and encourage all genders, ethnicities, beliefs and backgrounds to come along. The choir is centred around community, for community!
