Description
THIS EVENT IS POSTPONED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS TILL AUGUST 2021.
With the increasing risk of spread of the COVID-19 in Australia, the health and safety of our community members is our number one priority. As such, we have sadly made the call to cancel our trainings for both the Rhythm of Regulation – Polyvagal Theory workshop and the Evening Lecture with Deb Dana to minimise the risk of potentially exposing community members to the Coronavirus. Both events were booked keenly and will be well attended and with a significant amount of people in the one space, plus travel - the risk unfortunately is too high. Health department advice increasingly recommends to reduce group gatherings.
PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME TO THE PVT INTEREST LIST FOR UPDATES ON NEW EVENTS INCLUDING DEB's WEBINAR SERIES FOR AUSTRALIA.
ALL TICKETS SOLD WILL BE TRANSFERED OR REFUNDED IN COMING DAYS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EMAIL SENT 14th March 2020.
In this inaugural Australian workshop series participants will learn the basics of Polyvagal Theory, and through experiential practices bring the power of co-regulation directly into their clinical work. Each week covers the same material in 30 hours. A followup 3 day Deepening workshop will be offered to those who have completed either week here, proposed currently for early 2021.
A Polyvagal Theory guided approach to therapy begins with helping clients map their autonomic profiles and track their moment to moment movement along the autonomic hierarchy. With this foundation, the essential clinical questions address how to help clients interrupt habitual response patterns and find safety in a state of engagement.
These two 5 day (30 hours) workshops will introduce Polyvagal Theory as a practical application. The same material is covered in each workshop, come to either in order to attend the Deepening workshop later in 2020 and 2021. For the first time Australian practitioners and therapists will have a training to become a co-regulating resource and to offer concrete ways to help their clients find and savour experiences of safety.
We will experiment with:
- multiple ways to map autonomic responses
- practical ways to help clients identify and interrupt their familiar response patterns
- skills to safely explore patterns of action, disconnection, and engagement
- techniques to build autonomic regulation and resilience
- strategies to shape the autonomic nervous systems toward safety and connection
Become fluent in the language of Polyvagal Theory and return to your clinical work with practices designed to reliably help your clients re-shape their systems and re-write the stories that are carried in their autonomic pathways.
For further course information see here; Rhythm of Regulation
Deb Dana's work as a LCSW clinician, consultant, lecturer, and Coordinator of the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium in the Kinsey Institute is focused on using the lens of Polyvagal Theory to understand and resolve the impact of trauma and create ways of working that honor the role of the autonomic nervous system as we move through states of protection and connection in an ongoing quest for safety. Out of Stephen Porges's brilliant work developing Polyvagal Theory, a world-wide community of Polyvagal-informed people and systems is developing as we better understand the power of the autonomic nervous system to guide our movements and shape our stories.
Deb will offer the first week of the Foundations workshop this year in May, ahead of the second week of the Foundations workshop and the Advanced Clinical Practice workshops in 2021-22. Each workshop will be two five day modules with work and consultation in between, and leads to a Certificate as a Polyvagal informed practitioner. The May 2020 five day trainings in Mooloolaba covers the first module of the Foundations course, so participants can optionally join the full training over the next couple of years in her inaugural Australian Certificate program. Please note Deb also says "the first five day training is great by itself, not having to lead to anything deeper."
DATES
US-based Rhythm Of Regulation Trainer Deb Dana will offer this large group experiential-learning event twice in Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Queensland over the course of two weeks, May 11-15th, and May 18-22nd 2020.
Each week covers the same material in 30 hours. A followup 3 day Deepening workshop is proposed currently for August 2020 and 2021, and will be offered to those who have completed either week here.

The autonomic nervous system is at the heart of daily living, powerfully shaping experiences of safety and influencing the capacity for connection. Operating outside of conscious awareness, autonomic circuits assess safety and initiate actions to help us navigate the challenges of daily living. Guided by the principles of Polyvagal Theory, we have a deep understanding of the body-brain pathways that lead to healing. With an updated map of the autonomic circuits that underlie behaviors and beliefs, we can reliably lead our clients out of adaptive survival responses into the autonomically regulated state of safety that is necessary for successful treatment.
