About this event

Want to join a book club but don't always have the time? Want to try a new writer each month without the commitment of a 500-page novel? This is the club for you!

Each month we choose one short story or piece of narrative non-fiction share and discuss. Read the story online and then meet to share your thoughts with other club members.

April Read - The Fracture by Melanie Cheng

A fall has far-reaching repercussions in this short story from Cheng’s debut short story collection, Australia Day.

(As a sidenote, Melanie will be appearing at Yarra Libraries' Fitzroy Writers Festival in April discussing her new book, The Burrow!)

May Read - Pirates by Kristen Arnett

The private lives of Captain Jack Sparrow impersonators collide in this story from the author of With Teeth and Mostly Dead Things.

June Read - In Isolation by Sam van Zweden

In this essay, Sam explores the use of food as social glue when sitting around a table is no longer possible. Sam van Zweden is the author of Eating With My Mouth Open.
