About the Workshop

This unique half-day workshop is designed for people living in larger bodies (including those living with obesity) to come together with leading lived experience advocates, healthcare providers, researchers, and diversity, equity, and inclusion experts. The workshop will explore the science behind body size diversity, what truly inclusive healthcare could look like when accessing obesity treatments and what comprehensive obesity care and treatment looks like from a multidisciplinary team.


Topics Include:

  • Understanding why bodies come in different shapes and sizes
  • The impact of stigma on healthcare experiences
  • What inclusive, respectful healthcare looks like
  • Treatments available for obesity in Australia, in and out of hospital settings
  • Insights from people with lived experience on accessing obesity treatment
  • Multidisciplinary care and what this should look like

  • Dr Alex Craven- Metabolic-Bariatric Surgeon (Austin Health)
  • Jarryd Walkley- Metabolic-Bariatric Nurse Co-ordinator (Austin Health)
  • Fiona Sammut - Dietitian (Darebin Weight Loss Surgery)
  • Nadia Walton - Physiotherapist (Laneways Rehabilitation and Ergonomics)
  • Plus experts in General Practice (GP)and psychology coming soon!
