Psychological First Aid is an international best practice approach that helps people affected by emergencies to reduce their initial distress and to move towards calming and coping.

This includes helping people to feel safe, connected to others, calm and hopeful, able to access physical, emotional and social support, and to feel able to help themselves. Red Cross offers a free 4-hour workshop for community members to strengthen their local resilience and to build their skills and awareness of Psychological First Aid.

Psychological first aid is a psychosocial, support activity that helps people affected by an emergency, disaster or traumatic event.

How is PFA different from Mental Health First Aid?

Mental health first aid programs teach how to help someone experiencing a mental health emergency, Red Cross PFA is a resiliency-based program for everyone that offers prevention and coping strategies for dealing with different types of stress resulting from various types of traumas.

Who should take the PFA Training?

Everyone. Any adult community member who wants to learn how to support Family Friends and Community are encouraged to participate.
