Values Diffusion: How Toll Group is Making Sustainability Stick

Amid growing global urgency around sustainability, enterprises remain both significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and powerful engines for positive change. Yet top-down efforts alone—such as corporate directives and policy mandates—can only go so far in creating meaningful, lasting environmental impact.
This lecture, presented by Toll Group's Anna Green, examines how true sustainability transformation requires both enterprise-led measures and people-led engagement. As an energy-intensive logistics provider, Toll Group has historically depended on policy-driven strategies to manage its carbon emissions footprint. However, recognising the limitations of a purely hierarchical approach, the company has begun leveraging lessons learned from its successful Safety @ Toll program—an initiative that fostered strong team buy-in and personal agency.
By applying values diffusion, Toll is empowering employees at all levels to drive sustainable practices, linking enterprise objectives with daily operations. Anna will discuss how Toll Group integrates policy-based frameworks with employee-led action to increase its metabolic rate of change.
