What’s the training about?

SAFEMinds: In Practice helps school staff become 'Champions' in using the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach and the SAFEMinds Toolkit. You’ll also learn how to incorporate SAFEMinds resources into your school’s existing professional development and student wellbeing initiatives.

SAFEMinds is all about:

  • Enhancing mental health support for children and young people, focusing on mild mood disorders and self-harm.
  • Increasing parent and carer engagement to better support children’s mental health.
  • Creating strong referral pathways between schools and community youth and mental health services.

During the training, you’ll:

  • Get a deeper understanding of mental health in young people and how SAFEMinds and the NIP it in the bud! approach can help.
  • Learn how to respond to self-harm in schools using the NIP it in the bud! approach.
  • Dive into the NIP it in the bud! Toolkit, including brief intervention kits for Safe and Healthy Bodies and Minds, plus a case study from SAFEMinds Online.
  • Practice using the full NIP it in the bud! approach with another case study.
  • Reflect on how to implement the NIP it in the bud! approach at your school and explore SAFEMinds: At Home resources for families.
