About this event

The art of visible mending - creatively expressing the mends in clothing - has become a passionate undertaking and trend amongst many fashionistas and clothing repairers alike.

If you want to increase the wear of your favourite pieces that may have a small hole, stain or the fabric is just wearing a bit thin, we'd love to help you re-style and return these garments back into rotation with pride.

Learn the art of mending and hand-stitching one stitch and one mend at a time and simultaneously participate in slow fashion.

The fabulous Alicen will introduce you to the technique of visible mending, in this beginner level, 3-hour workshop. Beginning with an overview of basic stitches, you will learn how to darn and stitch to embellish on your pre-loved garments through thoughtful repairs. You will leave with a mended garment (or one in-progress).

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is suitable for adult beginners and young people 16yo+.

Some good basics to have (but not absolutely necessary as we can also show you how):

  • know how to thread a sewing needle,
  • know how to do a running stitch (the type of stitch you may have done in primary school)

***

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a garment (or two, bring more if you're not sure) you'd like to repair with a small hole (about the size of a 50c coin or smaller) or perhaps a small stain. Nothing with a large rip or tear in the seam please, as this will be too difficult for this short workshop.

All other equipment will be supplied by The ReDress Hub.

If you'd like to continue your visible mending after the workshop we will recommend the tools and materials you can purchase, either directly from us or at another local sewing store.
