About this event
New Location!!! Please note we have moved from The Farm to Ikin Dance in Mermaid Beach.
Join us in a Contact jam dedicated to the art of embodied listening and expressive movement. Experience the beauty of authentic humanness in the fun, messy experiment of moving in connection with other bodies. Discover a world of epiphanies, inspirations and insights to take into your week ahead.
Our community is growing with dancers, artists and those who desire to bravely challenge themselves, break down barriers and discover new dimensions of self expression.
So, if you're looking to transform your dance practice, explore the depths of your creative potential, and connect with a vibrant community of dancers, then come and join us for a unique and intimate experienced of improvised movement.
Stay for tea, snacks and reflections and enter your week feeling inspired, connected and regulated. Beginners welcome.
Our location + parking instructions: Limited street parking is available on Karen Avenue. Additional parking can be found at the Soak Bathhouse complex (gym side)— you’ll pass the hair salon on your left — and follow the walkway through.
Our studio is just down a few stairs, on your left. The building is clearly signed.
What to bring / wear: Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Long sleeves are recommended to make contact smoother, allowing limbs to glide across the floor and other moving bodies.
Frequently asked questions
This practice is suitable for beginners. We are a very warm and welcoming community, supportive of newbies and the awkwardness of starting out.
The intention is not to explore sensuality. This is a movement based practice that does involve touch, weight sharing and can be inadvertently intimate.
Whilst the basis of our practice does draw from Contact Improvisation principles, with a strong ecstatic dance influence - This jam is more of a fusion, that does indeed involve Contact and weight sharing as well as more fluid, embodied movement /expression (To music)
