Welcome to the WestWords Writing Workshop for Teens!

We’re so excited to have you join us for this creative and inspiring workshop, designed especially for young writers aged 13 to 17. Presented by WestWords and WestLit Libraries, these sessions are led by professional writers who are here to help you:

  • Sharpen Your Craft: Improve your skills in writing short stories and poetry.
  • Ignite Your Creativity: Explore fun techniques and exercises to spark fresh ideas.
  • Prepare for the Living Stories Writing Prize: Work on a piece of writing that could become your entry for this exciting competition.

Whether you’re passionate about writing or just curious to explore your creativity, this workshop is a fantastic opportunity to grow, connect, and share your voice.

Bring your imagination, a notebook, and your enthusiasm—we can’t wait to see the stories and poems you’ll create!

This workshop is for youth aged 13-17 years from the Hawkesbury local government area.

About the Author

Ben Peek is the author of nine books, including The Godless, Twenty-Six Lies/One Truth, and Dead Americans and Other Stories. His most recent book is The Red Labyrinth. His short fiction has appeared in magazines such as Lightspeed, Clarkesworld, Nightmare Magazine, and various Year's Best editions.

  • Please note that by entering this Hawkesbury City Council event, you are entering an area where photography, videography and audio recording may occur for the purposes of marketing of this and future events.
  • To ensure the privacy of individuals and children, images will not be identified with full names or personal information without written approval from the photographed subject or legal guardian.
  • Should you wish to not be photographed or recorded please notify the event photographer, or staff at the event.
  • By registering and attending this event, you are agreeing to comply with the Hawkesbury Library Service Patron Code Of Conduct.
  • Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult to all Library activities.
  • If you are unable to attend please cancel your tickets as soon as possible. This will enable others to participate in the programme.
  • Paid tickets are not transferable

Cancellation/refund policies:

  • To receive a full refund (minus an admin fee of 10% of session cost), please cancel your ticket or notify the library before 24 hours of the scheduled event. If less notice is given, a refund will not be issued.
  • Refunds will not be given if participants change their mind, or simply forget to attend the event. For exceptional circumstances, refunds may be issued at the discretion of the Library Coordinator.
  • A refund can take up to 7 working days to process after the event date (due to bank transfer times). Cash payment refunds can take up to 6 weeks to process.
