About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

Enjoy the wonder of the wildflowering season on an exploratory walk in this beautiful wallum and woodlands area. We will wander and walk, seeing what is in bloom, in particular checking out the post fire growth of areas that were burnt in 2023. We will end the morning with a light morning tea and some drawing for those interested (building our postcard collection for the 'Wildflowering by Design' exhibition later this year.

Participants should be aged 14 or older, or supervised by an accompanying adult.

To bring: Drinking water, hat, sunscreen, insect repellant, enclosed toe shoes, optional - something lightweight you would like to sit on for morning tea at the end.

The site

Scientific Area - Glass House Mountains, entrance from Mawson’s Rd (across from Holt Rd

This area is part of Glass House Mountains National Park.

(If coming from the highway, exit on Roy’s Rd and head west, drive about 6.3 km west, turn into Bury’s Rd, then left into Mawson’s Rd. Drive along Mawson’s Rd to the spot where it joins with Holt Rd. Entrance to the park is on the left.)

Details of the walk are not specifically listed on the parks website but the walk would be Grade 2-3 – we are not going anywhere near mountain hiking. The walk we hope to complete is 1-2 km and is an unsealed sandy track, with some filled in rock sections. It includes some variations in surface and gradients.

We want to share the joys of wildflowering experiences – through guided walks, workshops in nature, artmaking, curated exhibitions, and locally designed products and mementos. We work with artists, environmental groups and others, providing experiences and the chance to engage and connect, connecting people to nature, their creativity and each other. We invite you to explore the wonder and wild joys of wildflowering! (All welcome including those who identify as men, women and other genders - the business name is 'Wild/flower Women' and relates to where the inspiration first came from for a series of exhibitions and activities.)
