TUESDAY 10 NOVEMBER 2020:
9.30am-4.00pm: 13th Wine Tasmania Field Day - “Viable Viticulture – How Will You Ensure Longevity?”
Ensuring longevity (sustainability) in our vineyard businesses will help our wine businesses stay healthy and profitable. While everyone wants to be “sustainable”, it can sometimes be difficult to know what to do or commit to a formal program. This Field Day will be a focus on practical sustainability information, research and application for growers to use in their own businesses. Topics include vineyard floor management, biosecurity, weed management, viticulture in a changing climate and pest and disease management. Full program coming soon. Due to Covid19 restrictions, there will be a mixture of video, videoconferencing and in person presentations. Wine Tasmania gratefully acknowledges the support of this year's Field Day exhibitors - NAB, Cospak, Plasdene Glass-Pak, Midland Tractors, Nutrien Water & Primary Employers Tasmania.
4.30-5.15pm: Wine Tasmania AGM
For producer members of Wine Tasmania. The AGM provides an opportunity to review the 2019/20 year, including the Chair's Annual Report and Financial Statements presented by Chair Martin Rees & the Wine Tasmania Board, and appointment of Directors. AGM papers will be directly emailed to wine producer members.
5.30-7.30pm: Inaugural Tassie Wine Stars Event
It may not really feel like there is very much to celebrate in 2020 and it has, quite literally, been far too long between drinks for those of us in the sociable Tasmanian wine community. So at this, our first Tassie Wine Stars event, we will be recognising the people who make our sector great - our top performers in the 2019/20 VinØ best practice management program and some people who have gone above and beyond to support and progress the Tasmanian wine sector. This event will be a fun, casual affair hosted by MC Ryk Goddard. A night of minimal speeches, but maximum fun, delicious food and wine and plenty of laughs with friends and colleagues.
WEDNESDAY 11 NOVEMBER 2020:
9.30am-3.00pm: Wine Tasmania Winemakers Symposium : Chardonnay - Yay!
With a climate similar to Burgundy and Chablis, Tasmania is in the perfect location to produce benchmark Chardonnay. This event aims to provide Tasmanian producers with access to the latest research and ideas to help with crafting amazing Chardonnay in our unique and challenging environment.
Speakers include a well-known local chardonnay winemaker who will share their experiences along with AWRI researchers who will be discussing winemaking considerations and characteristics of Chardonnay (such as phenolics, sulphur volatiles, and varietal thiols) and a presentation on overcoming difficulties with malolactic fermentation. Chardonnay tastings included. Full program coming soon. Due to Covid19 restrictions, there will be a mixture of video, videoconferencing and in person presentations.
