About this event
The event is a one-day workshop entitled “Women, Gender, and Violence from Antiquity to the Middle Ages.” It will bring together scholars working at ANU and other institutions in Australasia to present research papers investigating women’s experiences of gender-based violence in different contexts, particularly in the political, domestic, legal, and ecclesiastical spheres.
The workshop aims to explore a number of key research questions, including: in what contexts do we see gender-based violence occur in the Roman, Byzantine and Medieval periods; and what does this violence tell us about the societal norms and expectations in the periods examined?
The workshop will be followed by a Reception & a Book Launch of Dr Simona Martorana’s new book Seeking the Mothers in Ovid's Heroides (Cornell University Press) at the ANU Classics Museum (A.D. Hope Building)
If you have any questions regarding the workshop, please contact Meaghan McEvoy at Meaghan.McEvoy@anu.edu.au .
