About this event

  • Event lasts 3 days 8 hours

In its 30th year, ZEN ZEN ZO is a Brisbane-based physical theatre company at the forefront of contemporary performance and training in Australia. This program, led by Zen Zen Zo founder, Dr Lynne Bradley, has now been held in all the capital cities of Australia – as well as Auckland, Vancouver, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Bristol and Singapore, and is open to performers, directors, teachers, and creative souls!

PERTH STOMP will take participants on a journey of transformation, both personally and professionally, as we investigate the ingredients of “extra-ordinary theatre” in a rigorous, fun and challenging environment using Zen Zen Zo’s specialty training methods, including The Suzuki Method, Viewpoints and Butoh. Dr Lynne Bradley will also be joined by Guest Artist Shaun Johnston who will take classes each day in Wrestling to Dance, a hybrid between contact improvisation and wrestling!

WHEN:

Sun 8 December: DEVISING
Mon 9 - Wed 11 December: PHYSICAL THEATRE
9am - 5pm each day, with a lunch break from 1pm - 2pm

Sunday will focus on the creative process, and explore tools we can use to build dynamic, visually striking work. We will work as a group to push past our creative habits and explore exciting new possibilities in our performance.

Monday - Wednesday will be a deep-dive into Zen Zen Zo's unique style of physical training, to help us find depth in our work as performers. Across three days, we'll use Suzuki Method, Viewpoints and Butoh to train our poetic, expressive body. We'll also explore how touch can be used to keep our work playful and dramatically rich.

Participants can book for just the Sunday, for Monday - Wednesday, or for the full course.
