Perth Playback Theatre Company

Perth Playback Theatre Company has been operating continuously for 40 years and is one of the most established playback theatre companies in the world. In 2021 Playback Theatre is practiced in over 50 countries with training centres and affiliates all over the world.

Our actors, facilitators, and musicians are trained in the specialised art of Playback Theatre. We come from all walks of life with a wide realm of experience to enhance our work on stage through engagement with all the stories and moments our audience brings. We bring extensive experience in working with primary schools to assist children’s transition to SHS, resilience workshops and work with companies to support team building.

Performances are based on audience members’ own stories, and you will see them unfold spontaneously through music, movement, and audience participation.

Today you may come together as strangers, and through the Playback performance leave as friends through sharing moments and stories.

Playback Theatre works because the best stories of joy, struggle, achievement, conflict can't be made up - they come from real experience. The conductor poses a question or asks for a moment, the teller shares their story, the musician leads the playback, the actors spring forth and bring the story to life. And so it goes.....
